Cultural Keys is an expat-run Chinese culture school that helps you not just see China, but experience it too, by offering the most authentic classes in traditional Chinese culture available in Beijing.

We are happy to offer our classes and workshops for booking by private groups, corporate institutions, schools, hotels and event organisers, both at our centre or at your location of choice.

Chinese Calligraphy Workshop

Learning calligraphy, one of China’s most famous cultural treasures, takes time and patience, but the rewards are many – not only does it teach culture, patience and control, but the focus required means it’s also a kind of meditation. Try it for yourself at our monthly workshop!

Date: First Saturday of every month (April – October)
Location: CK Culture Centre – Songzhuang, Tongzhou
Pickup: 9am at Tuanjiehu subway station
Drop off: 6.30pm at Tuanjiehu subway station

The price of all our monthly workshops includes transportation to our school, an introduction presentation, a 2-hour workshop with a local artist, lunch and free time to explore Xiaopu Artists Village!

Sugar Art Workshop – Traditional Chinese Culture for the Whole Family!

Chinese sugar art – sugar blowing and sugar painting – has been a staple folk art at markets and fairs for hundreds of years. Both can technically be eaten but are usually just bought for fun! Want to try this for yourself? Come join Cultural Keys at Culture Yard on May 19th and learn how to use sugar to create beautiful pieces of edible art in a workshop suitable for the whole family!

Price: This CK Cultural Treasures Workshop is just 188RMB for adults and 158RMB for children under 16. The price includes an English language presentation on the history and culture of sugar art, a two-hour workshop with an expert teacher, snacks and drinks.

Hidden Histories – Visit Prince Gong’s Mansion

Want to know stories of Beijing that Wikipedia can’t teach you? Then join Cultural Keys on our Hidden Histories walk around Prince Gong’s Mansion on June 14th with amateur historian John Chen. Find out about the history of the building, the trials and tribulations of the people who lived there, and the impact they had on China.

The walk finishes in the classical Chinese garden where you are free to relax as long as you wish!
