Film Meet: Screenwriting for Chinese Audiences

With the world’s second-largest film market and having shows with the highest amount of viewers on earth, one wouldn’t be mistaken for thinking it’s a good time to work as a scriptwriter in China. However, are we correct in calling it a “hero’s journey” when speaking about those who work in story writing for Chinese films and TV series? What is the nature of the relationship between producers and scriptwriters? Are there specific cultural sensibilities that one should adhere to in scriptwriting in order to meet the audience’s expectations?

For its first public recording Middle Earth- China’s cultural industry podcast organizes a panel discussion to answer those questions with three scriptwriters: Cai Jinru, Joey Wang, Jordan DeFazio.
